Since 1983, the Goldman Department has been a leader in the field of Jewish educational computing.

Consulting & TrainingThe Goldman Computer Department serves as a consultant to international, national, and local agencies, schools and parent organizations. Schools from all over the world consult with the Goldman Lab to help them in developing technology curricula as well as for advice concerning the physical setup of their computer labs. Since its inception, the Goldman Department has trained over 3,000 educators throughout the world. A few of its most recent endeavors include integration of technology workshops for national bureaus and local universities, technology consultation for all of the ATT schools and software training on an on-going basis. The Goldman Department also helps its schools write technology plans. It currently serves as the primary contact for technology plan approval for nonpublic non-Catholic schools in Illinois.

The Goldman Training Lab is a specialized facility for teacher training. The Goldman lab offers a wide range of computer classes twice a year through the Associated Talmud Torahs' Department of Teacher Education and Development. Classes for parents of ATT students are also offered on topics of basic Hebrew and English word processing as well as Internet searching techniques.

JWIT, Judaic Web Institute for Teachers: The Goldman Computer Department is proud to have sponsored two intensive summer seminars designed for teachers of Judaic studies to learn how to create web-based learning materials that can be used by Judaic studies students nationally and internationally. These seminars were conducted in partnership with the Lookstein Center for Jewish Education in the Diaspora at Bar Ilan University in Israel.

WorkshopsThe Goldman Computer Department conducts workshops designed to address the computing needs of schools and bureaus across the country, Europe, and Israel. Currently, the Goldman Computer Department participates in NECC, the National Educational Computing Conference, offering a special session where Jewish educators from all over North America have the opportunity to share their technological concerns and agendas. For the past several years, the Goldman Computer Department has presented workshops at ICE, the Illinois Technology Conference for Educators. The Goldman Computer Department has also sponsored a Judaic Technology Conference and Vendor Fair with the Board of Jewish Education of Greater New York, the Jewish Education Service of North America, and Touro College.

Computer Lending Library: In January 2005, the ATT-Goldman Computer Department proudly announced the opening of the Rabbi Meir & Elizabeth Fischer Shapiro Computer Lending Library. This innovative program provides teachers with laptops as well as the latest Judaic software on a temporary basis for the creation of classroom materials and preparation for technology integration.

The Directory of Judaic CD-ROMS: The Goldman Computer Department created and maintains a directory of Judaic CD-ROMS containing a comprehensive list of current Judaic CDs. Each CD listing includes a brief description of the CD, the necessary system requirements, the publisher, and cost. To view this directory, click here.

New Projects: Among the new projects planned for the Goldman Department are a CD-ROM lending library to schools, a list-serv for teachers to share the latest educational ideas, a computer coordinators networking group, and a video conferencing center.
