The 2007 Keter Award Banquet of the Associated Talmud Torahs of Chicago...

There was a buzz in the air as over 500 people attended the 2007 ATT Keter Award Banquet on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at the Westin O’Hare Hotel.

The theme of the banquet was “Building Bridges in the Jewish Community” and a feeling of “Achdut”, unity, filled the room. The honorees for the evening, Rabbi Dr. Harvey and Vivien Well and Mr. Lawrence A. Sherman have all worked tirelessly throughout their careers to bring the community closer together, and the results were clearly visible at the banquet.

Larry Sherman received the Reuben and Frances E. Feinberg Memorial Crown for Community Service. He has been involved with Jewish Education and camping for many years and is a former Board Member and Chairman of the Jewish Education Committee of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago.

Rabbi and Mrs. Well received the Jewish Educational Leadership Award for their many years of service to the Associated Talmud Torahs and the Jewish Community. A new endowment fund, The Rabbi Harvey and Vivien Well Innovation in Education Fund, has been established in their name. This endowment will provide funding for:

  • • Innovative Programs in Jewish Education
  • • Educational Outreach to the Jewish Community
  • • Awards for Teacher Excellence

Initial gifts of over $10,000 were announced at the banquet and will be permanently commemorated at the ATT office. To participate in this historic opportunity or for more information, please contact Asher Karoll, Director of Development, at 773-973-2828 or asherkaroll@att.org.

The Banquet Chairmen were Rabbi Morris I. Esformes and Mr. Eric Rothner. Marilyn Allswang Eisenberg played the piano during dinner and “Listen Up!” an a cappella group, performed several lively songs. Everyone left with a good feeling.

Please save the date for next year’s Keter Award Banquet on Sunday, November 23, 2008. More information will be posted when it is available.
