ATT Convenes Annual Teachers' Educational Conference

These were comments after the recent Associated Talmud Torahs of Chicago's Annual Teachers' Educational Conference which took place on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the ATT. The Conference featured many workshops for all ATT Day School and High School teachers, from 1st through 12th grade. Close to 500 teachers found the day to be informative and were grateful for the opportunity to network with their peers.     

 

Teachers of Judaic studies attended workshops from the following: "Dumping the D’s: How to Stop Put-Downs, Bullying, Taunting, and Teasing while Teaching Responsible Problem-Solving" and “The Magic of Mighty Minds: Teaching Young People to Think & Creating A Positive Classroom Environment for Learning and Cooperation” presented by Mr. Michael Brandwein; "Ten Tips and Techniques for Creating a Pleasant and Productive Judaic Studies Classroom Environment” and “Teaching Mishnayos and Chazara Strategies” presented by Rabbi Moshe Garfinkel; “How to Motivate Students to Embrace Yiddishkeit When the Student is Focused on other Priorities” presented by Rabbi Pesach Wachsman; and "Using Archaeology as a Tool to Teach Tanach” presented by Mrs. Miriam Jaffe.            

 

General studies teachers attended workshops on "Dumping the D’s: How to Stop Put-Downs, Bullying, Taunting, and Teasing while Teaching Responsible Problem-Solving " and “The Magic of Mighty Minds: Teaching Young People to Think & Creating A Positive Classroom Environment for Learning and Cooperation” presented by Mr. Michael Brandwein; “Activity Breaks in the Classroom: Using Physical Activity to Manage, Motivate, and Energize Your Class” presented by Ms. Sara Price; "Orton-Gillingham in Practice: Reflection on Implementation Challenges and Strategies to Address Them” presented by Kristen White; “Reading Tips, Tools, and Techniques for Middle and Secondary Teachers” and “Writing Tips, Tools, and Techniques for Middle and Secondary Teachers” presented by Mr. Jim Burke.          

 

There were special workshops for: special education/resource teachers and Gesher Hatorah teachers on the topic of “Creating A Safe and Tolerant Culture for Socially Awkward Students: Prevention, Identification, & Response” presented by Dr. Paul Cantz and Dr. Yisroel Brownstein, and a librarian/media specialist networking session facilitated by Mrs. Debbie Feder. An administrative workshop entitled, “The Value of Varying Views: Building Collaboration, Creativity, and Constant Improvement” was presented by Mr. Michael Brandwein for principals, assistant principals, and program coordinators.
