Recap 2012 Tisha B'Av ProgramOn Sunday, July 29, 2012, the Associated Talmud Torahs (ATT) Sandor and Margit Kirsche Department of Holocaust Studies invited the Chicago community to a special Tisha B’Av family program at the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center. The community’s response was stunning. Over 500 people from all segments of the community attended. Hundreds toured the exhibits, hundreds watched movies, and over a hundred listened to a survivor’s personal narrative. The program concluded with a community Mincha service. The complimentary program’s purpose was two-fold. First, it was designed as a sequel to an earlier June Holocaust Symposium to continue the ATT’s efforts to engage the Chicago community, especially making the younger generations more aware, with the Holocaust. Second, the ATT wanted to introduce the community to the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center and its comprehensive resources. The event was an exceptionally moving and unifying experience. The program’s huge attendance demonstrated that the victims of the Holocaust, their suffering and their memories, will never be forgotten. |
